2024 Arrl Field Day
Field Day is ham radio’s open house, bringing amateur radio operators together each June to demonstrate the science, skill, service, and emergency-communications capabilities of amateur radio.
George County ARES Field Day 2024 will be held Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, at the home of General, KD4VVZ, and Annis, KD1VVZ, at 258 Geiger Road in Lucedale.
Field Day is about much more than making contacts. This year’s event includes license testing, workshops, hands-on activities, operating opportunities, food, fellowship, and plenty of chances to learn something new.
Amateur Radio License Testing
Amateur radio license examinations for all license classes will be offered Saturday morning.
Candidates should arrive by 7:30 AM for registration. Testing begins at 8:00 AM.
Antenna-Building Workshop
Operators interested in learning more about antennas will have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on antenna-building workshop.
Participants will measure, build, hang, trim, and tune a 20-meter dipole. If time permits, a second antenna project may also be offered.
The antennas built during the workshop will be used during Field Day and then given to participants after the event.
HF Filtering Demonstration
A live HF filtering demonstration is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
This hands-on session follows our recent presentation on understanding and using filters on HF radios and gives participants an opportunity to apply those concepts at an operating station.
Fox Hunt Workshop
A Fox Hunt workshop will be held after lunch Saturday.
Anyone interested in learning radio direction finding or participating in the hunt should bring a 2-meter handheld radio.
Get on the Air
Field Day is a great opportunity to learn, share knowledge, ask questions, operate unfamiliar equipment, and gain practical radio experience.
If you have a radio you’ve been struggling with, bring it along. We’ll see if someone can help answer your questions.
Operators bringing their own Field Day station should coordinate in advance so adequate operating space can be planned.
Field Day stations will operate both voice and digital modes with computer logging of contacts.
Most importantly, the goal is for everyone to participate at whatever level is comfortable and have a good time doing it.
